چکیده

Background Kiwi fruit is a common food allergen and severe allergic reactions are observed. The current diagnostic accuracy is poor with a reported diagnostic sensitivity of 65% in a large European cohort. Recently, two new kiwi allergens were registered, both being storage proteins and both isolated from kiwi seeds. Storage proteins are often linked to severe clinical reactions in other food allergies. The aim of this study was to evaluate sera from Swedish children with documented kiwi allergy, and investigate their IgE-reactivity to purified seed allergens.

High frequency of IgE sensitization towards kiwi seed storage proteins among peanut allergic individuals also reporting allergy to kiwi

Background IgE sensitization to storage proteins from nuts and seed is often related to severe allergic symptoms. There is a risk of immunological IgE cross-reactivity between storage proteins from different species. The potential clinical implication of such cross-reactivity is that allergens other than the known sensitizer can cause allergic symptoms. Previous studies have suggested that kiwi...

Detailed characterization of Act d 12 and Act d 13 from kiwi seeds: implication in IgE cross-reactivity with peanut and tree nuts.

BACKGROUND Act d 12 (11S globulin) and Act d 13 (2S albumin) are two novel relevant allergens from kiwi seeds that might be useful to improve the diagnostic sensitivity and the management of kiwifruit-allergic patients. OBJECTIVE To perform a comprehensive structural and immunological characterization of purified Act d 12 and Act d 13 from kiwi seeds. METHODS Sera from 55 well-defined kiwif...

Allergen Data Collection - Update: Kiwi Fruit (Actinidia chinensis)

First reports of allergic reactions to kiwi fruit occurred relatively late in 1981, when this exotic fruit was becoming more common in nutrition in western countries. The prevalence of kiwi fruit allergy seems to be low in food allergic individuals. Nevertheless IgE mediated reactions after ingestion of kiwi fruit can be most severe, as shown by several cases of anaphylactic shocks. Belonging t...

IgE-mediated sensitization to poppy seeds is rare, but, if present, clinical symptoms are usually severe. Cross-sensitizations between poppy seeds and other food allergens have been described with sesame, hazelnut, rye gr...

Allergy to kiwi: is component-resolved diagnosis in routine clinical practice really impossible?

BACKGROUND Kiwi allergy is frequent and can be the result of sensitization to a number of allergens showing different physicochemical characteristics. Component-resolved diagnosis of kiwi allergy is still unavailable in routine clinical practice. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether component resolved-diagnosis of kiwi allergy can be, at least in part, carried out by a proper combination of routi...
